Full Professor at the Université du Québec en Outaouais (UQO) and Scientific Director of Civil Society Collaborations at OBVIA (International Observatory on the Societal Impacts of AI and Digital Technology)

Karine Gentelet is a Full Professor at the Université du Québec en Outaouais (UQO) and Scientific Director of Civil Society Collaborations at OBVIA (International Observatory on the Societal Impacts of AI and Digital Technology). From 2020 to 2022, she held the Abeona-ENS-OBVIA Visiting Professorship in Social Justice and Artificial Intelligence.

Her research interests and publications focus on the impacts of artificial intelligence technologies on social justice, citizen participation, and, more broadly, the role of civil society in AI governance, as well as on the implications for human rights, including the rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Her most recent article, entitled Social Justice Through Digital Empowerment: Insights from Digital Justice Initiatives by and for Marginalized Groups and Communities, was published in the Canadian Journal of Communications in 2026.
